Every time Xiaomi rolls out new MIUI update it makes Fastboot and Recovery ROM available for download. So, the users who haven’t received the latest update can install it manually on their device. It also comes in handy if you want to downgrade your MIUI version or want to unbrick your soft bricked Xiaomi phone. In this tutorial, we are going to guide you on how to flash Fastboot and Recovery ROM on Xiaomi Phone.
The Recovery ROM can be installed via updater app, which boots the device into Recovery Mode and installs the select MIUI ROM package. Depending on the situation the data on the phone may or may not be wiped. On the other hand, Fastboot ROM requires you to boot the device into Fastboot Mode and will wipe all of your data.
- Backup all of your data
- Go to Settings -> About Phone and Tap on MIUI version for about 7-10 times. Now go back to Settings -> Additional Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
- Charge the device to at least 75%.

Step 1: Download the MIUI Recovery ROM .zip package and copy it to your device’s internal storage.
Step 2: Open the updater app.
Step 3: Tap on the three dots (…) at the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 4: Tap on Choose Update Package.
Step 5: Browse and select the MIUI Recovery ROM package you have copied in Step 1 and then confirm to start the flashing process.
Step 6: The device will reboot and installs the ROM package. Once installed it will automatically boot up.
How to flash Fastboot ROM on Xiaomi Phones:
Method 1: With unlocked Bootloader.
Step 2: Install Xiaomi USB Drivers on PC.
Step 3: Download and install MI Flash Tool on PC.
Step 4: Power off your device and boot into Fastboot Mode by pressing Volume Down (-) and Power Buttons at the same time.
Step 5: Connect the device to PC and launch Mi Flash Tool.
Step 6: Click on Refresh to detect the device.
Step 7: Now Click on select and choose the folder containing all the ROM files or you can copy the address to the ROM files and paste it into the box.
Step 8: At the bottom, choose “clean all” and hit the flash button.
Step 9: Now the flashing process should start and this might take about 10-60 mins. So we recommend you to make sure that the device has enough charge left before you proceed with this method.
Step 10: Once the flashing process is done, your device will reboot automatically.
Method 2: With Locked Bootloader.
If you have locked bootloader and want to flash the MIUI Fastboot ROM, then you have to boot your device into EDL Mode or Emergency Download Mode.
- Follow the Steps 1-4 from the above Method 1.
- Connect your device to PC.
- Download fastboot edl package from here and extract it on PC.
- Double click on edl.cmd
- Now the display on the device should go blank with LED light blinking. This confirms the boot into EDL mode.
- Launch Mi Flash Tool on PC and follow the Steps 6-10 from Method 1.
Congratulations! Now you have successfully flashed MIUI Recovery and Fastboot ROM on Xiaomi Phone.
